In times past, wood used to be the main building material for most houses. Today, however, there is a great variety to choose from, and many materials are much more durable and versatile than wood. Still, it is not easy to match the beauty of a well built wood roof.

If you do decide to install a wood roof, you need to be ready to spend the money and time required for upkeep, or else your roof might not last as long as you would like it to. Wood is sensitive to many different damaging conditions. It can rot, get infected by wood boring insects or even catch fire. You also want to make sure that installation is done by a professional, since poor installation can shorten your roofs life-span even further. To protect the roof from fire, it might need to be treated with a fire retardant, if this has not already been applied at the factory.

A nice property of wood is that it is a good insulator, while at the same time, allowing your home to breathe.
