Have you ever looked out of an open window, seeing how high above the ground you are? Just imagine falling out and how painful it would be. What if that happened to your child? Unfortunately, young children don’t have the self preservation that adults do, so while you realize the danger, they do not. This is why you should never leave a young child alone in a room with an open window. If you do enjoy leaving windows open in your home, you should take a few precautions to make sure that the worst won’t happen.
Having a sturdy bug screen installed can be something of a help, but it should not be relied on as the only protection since it won’t be able to hold up the weight of a child. If you can just open up the top half of the window, this will be a safe alternative since the child won’t be able to reach the opening to get out.
You can also plan for the worst by having soft covering on the ground underneath windows, such as mulch, and plant bushes there as well.
