When you hear the term “Hard water” what do you think of? While some might think of an ice-cube, it really refers to water that has high mineral content and therefore causes issues with buildup in a home.
Hard water isn’t bad for human consumption. In fact, there has actually been some research that shows that hard water is better for you since it provides some minerals that are beneficial for your health. Hard water is however not good for the pipes in your home. It can build up on the outside of your bathroom fixtures, which is unsightly and annoying, but what is really bad is when it builds up inside of your pipes or in your appliances such as your water heater.
There are ways for you to treat hard water with a water softener, but unfortunately, this isn’t cheap, and the systems can be difficult to install. For homeowners that get their water from a well, it might be their only option.
